Used ATV Buying Tips
Whether you are considering buying your first ATV or purchasing an extra one for your young adults or spouse buying a used quad can save you a considerable amount of money compared to the price of a new one.
Below are a few used ATV buying tips before making your purchase.
Check out the vehicles tires. Are they worn out? Have the been repaired numerous times? These could be indications of rough use or abuse of the quad.
Check the underside of the vehicle for any fluid leaks, severe rust and structural damage to the vhicles frame and suspension components.
Check the oil in both differentials to see if it is discolored or contaminated with water. Do the same when checking the engines motor oil.
On 4x4 quads, check the CV joint boots. If they are cracked or damaged, damaged CV boots allow water to get inside and permit the constant velocity joints to rust and lead to major damage, which can be a costly repair.
Check the drive train sprockets and chain, if they are worn on one side or bent, a new chain and sprocket will be needed.
Remove the vehicles seat and check the air filter box for dirt and water, a sign of neglect or lack of maintenance. Check the ATVs body, cracked or damaged body parts will need replacing.
Does the vehicles exhaust have the spark arrestor in place? Many ATV owners remove these. Riding in the National Forest and most public trails require spark arrestor's to be in place. Running without one can subject the rider to a fine and prevention from riding.
If you are buying the ATV online contact the seller by phone if possible and ask plenty of questions and request detailed photos of any damage to be emailed to you.
Following a few buying precautions can save you a lot of money in unexpected repairs and make your used ATV purchase a pleasurable buying experience.
